How To Create Your Own Handmade Party Invitations For Free
By Sarah Gasu Remember how you felt receiving a wedding invite in the mail with its beautiful layers of paper and decorative ribbons and buckles, you just knew how romantic and classy that wedding would be. Perhaps you've been lucky enough to receive other beautifully created party invitations and felt that same excitement and anticipation. For children the feelings are just the same; a fun, unique invitation tells them this party is special and really sets the mood for the big day that is coming. Receiving invitations is an exciting event for our little ones, but with handmade party invitations the gift is also in the giving. It may take some time and a bit of effort to put together such special invites, but the radiant smile on your little ones face as they hand them out to their excited and completely impressed little friends is worth every fiddly sticky moment. So, where can you get some ideas to help you create your own handmade party invitations? The answer is simple, look to nature and then let the theme of the party inspire you. I once had the joy of organising a fairy party for an 8 year old girl whose mother is as inspired by fairies as I am. We came up with some delightful ways to create the atmosphere of woodland scene in her home and so naturally she wanted her invitations to reflect that theme and to really create a sense of magic and enchantment. The potential ways to say enchanting with fairy parties are many but as it was autumn the idea that came to mind seemed obvious. At that time of year beautiful leaves are abundant and so after collecting suitable ones from a nearby park it was simply a case of writing the invitation on the leaf with a fountain pen in tiny fairy handwriting. The effect was charming. Collecting items to use for hand made party invitations is not only unique and creative but also completely free. Large scallop shells work wonderfully for a beach or mermaid party and can easily be painted or simply written on with a marker pen. Strips of bark or tropical green leaves are perfect for a jungle party, even a coconut, whilst not free unless you live in tropical climes, can be used to contain an invitation to a tropical luau. One of the most fun invitation activities I ever embarked on with my own daughter was creating something unique for a beach party. We'd already done a message in a bottle for her Pirate Party the previous year, and had used a variety of shells for a huge Hawaiian Luau for my husband's fortieth, so I wanted to try something new. The idea came to me as we were at the beach and I watched kids writing messages in the sand. Bingo! We collected a variety of beach treasures, shells, weed, driftwood and frosted glass. Then we wrote our invitation in the sand, scattered the results of our beachcombing efforts artistically around the message and simply photographed it. The result was lovely. The photos were printed at home on the computer and then the rest of the invitation details printed on some nice card stock and glued to the back. So, next time you're throwing a party, think for a moment. Sure you could send out the usual paper invitations, and there truly are some beautiful ones on the market today, but why not have a go at making them yourself, let nature be your guide, the cost is often negligent, but the fun you'll have collecting and constructing the invites with your child will be a memory that will last forever.

These tips and guidelines will help your child and all her guests enjoy their party and learn proper manners. How much you follow accepted etiquette really depends on the age of your child and her guests. For a very young group you may find that simply instructing them to say "please" and "thank you" and to ask for things to be passed rather than reaching for them is acceptable etiquette at your party. As a parent it might be helpful if you stand beside the table and gently offer guidance as you go. You could even start your party by giving all your guests a short lesson in this party etiquette
